The Model United Nations project was a month long process full of research, mock conferences and a lot of writing. The purpose of this project was for us to be able to understand one of the major issues going on in the world at the moment which was the Syrian refugee crisis, and we had to research what our countries thoughts were on the crisis, I had to represent France and I was in the committee #1.
My Country
The country I was assigned was France, France is 1 out of 28 countries in Europe. France has a semi-presidential system as well as a republic government. France has recently been super involved in the Syrian refugee crisis, they have very many refugee camps that help house the refugees. Although lately the U.N and France are getting rid of a couple of refugee camps due to the lack of them being fit for human habitation. Also a lot of these camps and the refugees are causing a lot of problems for France including terrorist attacks and brawls inside the refugee camps. I kind of agree with France on getting rid of some refugees or plainly not taking in anymore refugees because they have cause so much trouble for the country and no matter what they do it doesn't get better for them.

This article was very helpful to me because I was toward the end of writing my position paper and I felt like it was missing something then I had looked at one of the other girls papers who had the same country as me and she had great sources and I had asked her what websites she had used and she recommended this website.
I found this article so helpful because it had given me information that I simply did not know about.
Position Paper:
The process of writing my position paper was pretty long, we had to make three drafts and those three draft felt like forever to complete. Each draft kept improving as I went so for the first draft I kind of got feed back on an unfinished paper but the people that gave me feed back said to add in a lot of statistics, lots of numbers so that the readers could understand how big of an issue this was, for the second draft I had minor changes to make, but a lot of the girls in the same country as me really enjoyed how my position paper was worded. Lastly my third draft was a lot of grammar changes and fixing misspelled things. I am really proud of this writing piece because it was something that took a very long time to complete and it felt like a huge process with all of the research I had done in order to complete it, a line that people really liked from my position paper was - Since the terrorist attacks there has been a lack of tourism in France. France is the second most visited place in the world, millions of people visit every year and spend money which is one of the ways that France makes money from, now without tourism there is no money coming into the country. Because of that there is no possible way to improve Grande-Synthe, a refugee camps that has recently been burned down due to a fight between Kurdish and Afghan gangs. With that there will be no way to recuperate the camp without money. France is also suffering a major debt of 2.9 billions dollars, and an unemployment rate of 10.6%. Everyone liked that I had included into my paper about the fact that my country was suffering because of this huge crisis and I told them specifically why this wasn't going very well for us.

Opening Speech
For my opening speech I didn't change anything at all, I just took information from my position paper that I felt I really needed to let the committee know about. There were a lot of things I really wish I would've added to my speech, after the conference I felt as if my speech was terrible, everyone else stated their countries opinion which I think my speech lacked in a lot. Next time if I ever do Model United Nations again I will definitely make those changes to my speech and hopefully I will feel more confident about it.

Overall Experience:
This project was very eye opening to me, it showed me how we really don't pay attention to the things happening outside of our community, after experiencing this project for the second time around and being a little bit older than the first time I feel like I am more socially aware of the happenings in our world. Now, I wanna talk about my committee, they were one of the best committees Ive ever been in, I felt like everyone in it knew exactly what they were talking about and they knew what the mission was the mission was creating peace so there was no talking about dropping bombs on other countries so I really really enjoyed being in this committee. I really enjoyed Model United Nations but I really would've like to change the fact that it was a two day long conference when on the first day we were ready to start writing resolutions and so the next day was basically us just trying to make the time go by faster by doing many unmoderated caucus' so that we could start writing our resolutions. I really hope that for the fallowing years they keep the same formatting of all of the position paper outlines and speech outlines the same because they were incredibly helpful, also meeting with our committees and possibly our fellow country members would've been nice.
Key Moment:
A key moment during my two day conference was when we were writing resolutions it felt like the real deal, it honestly felt like we were all coming together and we were going to solve this major world issue. My committee only had two resolutions while the rest of the committees has way more, and we only had to have two resolutions because we were not allowed to just have one but in the end we combined both and made one huge alliance. This was a key point for and I will honestly never forget it.
